Biennale Music
The 51st International Festival of Contemporary Music will take place October 4th to 13th, directed by Giorgio Battistelli. An entire section of the Festival, Made in Italy, will highlight 14 new Italian composers, who received commissions for instrumental pieces. More commissions to Nyman, Dall’Ongaro and Ambrosini. Special concerts dedicated to Xenakis, Donatoni, Cage, Kagel, Nono, and Pennisi.

51st International Festival of Contemporary Music The 51st International Festival of Contemporary Music showcases 61 composers from all over the world -Jordan, Kuwait, Israel, China, Korea and Japan, in addition to United States and Europe– with 17 new commissions, 25 world premieres and 22 Italian premieres. The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement will be awarded to Giacomo Manzoni; the Golden Lion for the Music of the Present will be chosen among the music and the musicians of the Festival. The Venice Biennale's International Festival of Contemporary Music was established in 1930 and was the first festival to run alongside the International Art Exhibition, that had characterized the birth of the Biennale back in 1895. Over the years, the Festival presented world premieres by Strawinsky, Prokofiev and Nono, and its tradition is now renewed under the directorship of Giorgio Battistelli. After Venice music the world, the festival that took place in 2004 and was focused on orchestral music, Battistelli presented in 2005 Music and its double, to suggest the relationship between music and theatre. The festival Va' pensiero, directed again by Battistelli, took place in 2006.
