The 52nd International Art Exhibition, entitled Think with the Senses – Feel with the Mind. Art in the Present Tense, opened on June 10th. The international exhibition, curated by the American artist and critic, Robert Storr, is set up in the Arsenale and in the Italian Pavilion at the Giardini, and presents about a hundred artists from all over the world. 76 national participations and 34 collateral events are also in the program of the exhibition. On the opening day, the photographer Malick Sidibé was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.

The festival will complete the three-year project that director Ismael Ivo has planned on the theme of the body. The body as desire -Body & Eros- will inspire choreographers and dance companies from all over the world. The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement will be awarded to German artist and choreographer Pina Bausch.

In the tri-centenary of the birth of Goldoni, the Festival is an opportunity to rediscover the roots and the resources of modern theatre through the work of the great Venetian playwright. Adaptations, free transcriptions and completely new works inspired by Goldoni distinguish the Festival events.

The 64th Venice Film Festival will take place August 29 to September 8. Founded on 6th August 1932, the oldest film festival in the world celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. Zhang Yimou will chair the jury that will award the Golden Lion for Best Film. The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement will be awarded to Tim Burton.
